How to Transfer Authenticator data to a New Phone

Microsoft Authenticator

Follow these steps to back up and restore your Microsoft Authenticator data when switching to a new device.

On Your Old Phone

Open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Tap the three vertical dots (⋮) at the top-right corner and select Settings.
Scroll to the Backup section:
On Android: Toggle on Cloud Backup.
On iPhone: Toggle on iCloud Backup.
This will back up your authenticator data to the account you originally used to set up Microsoft Authenticator.
Note: Make sure you're signed in with the correct Microsoft account.

On Your New Phone

Download and open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Tap on "Begin Recovery" or navigate to the Recovery tool.
Select “Already have a backup? Sign in to your recovery account.”
Sign in using the same Microsoft account used for the backup on your old device.
Your accounts will automatically be restored in the app.

Other

Some accounts may require revalidation, such as signing in again or scanning a QR code. Microsoft Authenticator will notify you if this is needed.
Test that all your accounts are functioning correctly.
Once confirmed, you can safely remove the Authenticator app from your old phone.

Google Authenticator

On Your Old Phone

Open the Google Authenticator app.
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) or three horizontal lines (≡) in the top-right corner and select Transfer accounts.
Choose Export accounts.
Select the accounts you wish to transfer and tap Next. A QR code will be displayed on the screen.

On Your New Phone

Install the Google Authenticator app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Open the app and tap Get Started.
Select Import existing accounts? and then tap Scan QR code.
Scan the QR code displayed on your old phone. This will import the selected accounts into your new device's Google Authenticator app
